Exercises
for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities
Online "Quick Course" for Continuing Education Credits
By
Paul Spicer, QMRP and Gwen Hyatt, MS
Over
the last decade a great deal has occurred affirming community
integration as the option of choice to institutions. Individuals
with disabilities are able to work, live, and care for themselves
when provided the right supports and environment. Caregivers,
teachers, and family members must not overlook the value of
recreational involvements as well. Many healthcare workers
and family members are not prepared to adequately train an
individual with a disability in the areas of health, wellness,
and nutrition. This online "Quick Course" introduces its audience
to the terminology, characteristics, and the ability of people
with developmental disabilities to stretch out and reach their
full potential. Readers will see that exercise is truly for
everyone! The "Quick Course" may be read online or printed
for later reference. In addition, readers will be given
the opportunity to take a quiz at the end of the course, which
will count towards continuing education credits. The
innovative online course is a quick and easy introduction
to the field of health and wellness among individuals with
disabilities.
